Service Pack 2 for PaperPort 10

Information:
This document contains information about ScanSoft PaperPort 10 Service Pack 2.
These updates are available for download through the ScanSoft Update Service. The ScanSoft Update Service is an automatic update service included with PaperPort 10. To open the ScanSoft Update Service, do the following:
- Click on "Help > ScanSoft on the Web > Get Latest Updates".
- When the Update Service opens, click "Show Updates" then click "Add" on any of the available Service Pack(s) as desired.
- Click the "Next" button and then use the "Download" button to save the Service Pack(s) to the computer.
- Once downloaded, double-click the Service Pack to install. Please be sure to close out of all open applications before installing the Service Pack.
Note: If the "Install Now" button is used instead of the "Download" button, a message may appear stating that all open applications should be closed before continuing the installation. All applications can be closed except for the "Update Service" Internet Explorer Window. The Service Pack(s) can be successfully installed with this window open by pressing the "Ignore" button, however all other applications including PaperPort 10 must be closed.
The PaperPort 10 installation CD is required to install the Service Pack(s). If PaperPort 10 was downloaded from our Online Store (Digital River), the full download is required to install the Service Pack(s). Please extract the PaperPort 10 download to a folder on the computer. When the installation of the Service Pack(s) ask for the PaperPort 10 CD, click the "Browse" button and select the folder in which the extracted PaperPort 10 download is located. Click "OK" and the installation should proceed without a problem.

Installation Notes for Service Pack 2:
- Service Pack 1 and 2 are separate updates.
- Service Pack 1 must be installed before Service Pack 2 will be available and can be installed.
- If only Service Pack 2 is displayed by the ScanSoft update service, then service pack 1 is already installed.
- If no updates are available, Service Pack 2 is already installed.
- To check which Service Pack is installed, please access "Help > About PaperPort" and consult the following table:

New Features added in Service Pack 2:
- PaperPort will automatically recognize your scanner without requiring scanner setup. Scanner setup will only need to be run if PaperPort encounters difficulty with some scanning features.
- When printing PDF files to a printer, they are no longer converted to the MAX file format first. This should significantly decrease the amount of time required to print PDF files.
- PDF files created with MRC Compression Technology are now supported in PaperPort.
- PDF files must be converted to MAX for use with PaperPort FormTyper, but they can now be saved back to PDF.
Issues Resolved in Service Pack 2:
Note: Many of these issues are intermittent and/or not seen on all systems.

In addition to the items listed above, the following issues have also been resolved Service Pack 2:
All-in-One Search:
- When trying to open a normal sized image from the "Search Results's pane, an error appears stating the file cannot be opened because the image size may be too large.
- When selecting a file that contains meta-data in the "Search Results' pane, the meta-data is not displayed next to the file's thumbnail.
- When selecting a multi-page file in the "Search Results" pane and using the arrows on the file's thumbnail to change pages, the "Search Results" pane closes.
Annotations:
- When adding a large number of annotations to a file, PaperPort crashes.
- After adding annotations to a page, every time the file is saved the annotations move slightly toward the bottom right corner of the page.
- Line annotations starting at the left side of a page disappear when the page is saved.
- Special characters added to "Text" annotations with PaperPort should be viewable in other PDF viewing applications, such as Adobe Acrobat.
- When converting MAX files with "Text" annotations to PDF, the font color of the "Text" annotations should not be converted to white.
- The ability to change font in "Sticky Note" annotations on a PDF file has been removed as this feature is not supported in the PDF file format.
Desktop:
- Trying to drag a zip file onto the PaperPort Desktop results in an error message.
- When using the "Duplicate as PDF" option on a text based document, the "Save As" dialog appears.
- When unstacking pages from a multi-page file on the PaperPort Desktop, the page thumbnails are not properly generated.
- Copying and pasting file names from one folder into another does not work.
- When copying/cutting and pasting files/folders from location into another using the right-click context menu, the wrong context menu appears.
- When changing PaperPort Desktop Bookmark names and restarting PaperPort, the Bookmark name is not changed.
- When dragging and dropping a file onto another to stack them together, the document being dragged is inserted into the destination file in front of the page thumbnail that is being displayed.
Item Properties:
- When making multiple changes to page names in the Item Properties, PaperPort crashes.
- When trying to clear page names through Item Properties, PaperPort crashes.
- When making changes to a file through Item Properties, the Item Properties and/or buttons become inactive.
- The "Item Properties" are unavailable after stacking two or more files together.
Page Thumnails:
- When viewing a file in the "Page Thumbnails" view with the first page selected, the "Previous Page" button is available.
- When copying and pasting pages into a file using the "Page Thumbnails" view, PaperPort locks up.
- When cutting a page from one file and pasting it into another file using "Page Thumbnails", the page remains in the original file.
- When making changes to a file using "Page Thumbnails" view on the PaperPort Desktop, the thumbnails are not properly refreshed to reflect the changes.
- When making changes to a file using "Page Thumbnails" view, many of the options on the "Edit" menu become inactive (grayed out) when they should be available.
PageView:
- After making changes to a multi-page file's Item Properties in PageView, it is no longer possible to change pages.
- The "Page Names" drop down menu is not available from the Item Properties dialog in PageView.
- When opening a password protected PDF file in PageView and pressing "Cancel" on the "Password Required" dialog, PageView closes and then reopens the file back to the "Password Required" dialog.
- When making many changes to a page within a multi-page file using the SET tools, the page is deleted from the file.
- Page names are not displayed on the Properties Bar within PageView.
- The "Page Thumbnails" button should no longer become inactive (grayed out) when making changes to the file.
- When using cut and paste on part of a page in a multi-page file, the pasted image is placed onto the wrong page.
- When using the right-click context menu in PageView, the context menu is left on the screen.
- After making changes to annotations in PageView, the "Save" button is not active.
- When using the "Find" option on a PDF file in PageView, the document disappears from view.
PDF:
- PDF files annotated with ScanSoft PDF Converter Professional 3 cannot be viewed in PaperPort.
- When trying to access/modify a PDF file with password protection, PaperPort does not accept the password even though it is correct.
- When combining a file with a PDF file to append it to the PDF file, the file is not appended.
- When selecting multiple files and trying to save them all to separate PDF files, multiple PDF files are created using the last selected file.
- Printing two or more PDF files from PaperPort results in multiple prints of the last selected file.
Printing:
- PaperPort locks up when trying to print files from PaperPort to the PaperPort B&W or Color Printer Drivers.
- When trying to print files from PaperPort to the PaperPort B&W or Color Printer Drivers, an error message appears stating the system is low on virtual memory.
- After rotating a file and trying to print this file using PaperPort, it is printed using the original orientation rather than rotated.
- When trying to print files from PaperPort to the PaperPort B&W or Color Printer Drivers, the PaperPort Print Manager returns an error.
- When trying to print files from a Read-Only folder in PaperPort to the PaperPort B&W or Color Printer Drivers, the PaperPort Print Manager fails and needs to be restarted.
- When trying send image files to the PaperPort Printer Link using the PaperPort B&W or Color Printer Drivers, nothing happens.
Scanning:
- When scanning into PaperPort using Canon CanoScan LiDE scanners using the scanner software (UI), PaperPort crashes.
- When scanning into PaperPort using a Xerox Documate 252 scanner through a WIA driver, duplex scanning does not work.
- When scanning into PaperPort using a Xerox Documate 252 scanner through a WIA driver, every other page is blank.
- When scanning into PaperPort using a Brother scanner, PaperPort stops responding.
- When scanning into PaperPort using a Brother scanner through a WIA driver, scanning continues endlessly. The stop button must be pressed to halt scanning.
- When scanning multiple pages into a single multi-page file, page names are not automatically generated.
Send-To Links:
- When making changes to the PDF Converter Send-To Link Settings, PaperPort locks up.
- When getting a file from an FTP location using the FTP send-to link, the meta-data is not properly retained.
