Unable to launch application as a restricted user

Products: Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8, 9, 10; PDF Converter 3, 4, 5, 6; PDF Create 3, 4, 5, 6; PDF Professional 3, 4, 5, 6; OmniPage 14, 15, 16, 17; PaperPort 9, 10, 11, 12;

Problem:

After completing the installation, the follow message appears when launching as a restricted user:

"Please run this program from the Administrator account so it can set up your license. Once the license is set up, you can run it from any account."

Cause:

A registry key required by the copy protection mechanism is not accessible to the application.

Solution:

Follow these steps to change the permissions on the required registry key and resolve this issue:

Note: The following steps require manual changes to the Windows Registry. Please create a backup of your Windows Registry by highlighting "My Computer" and clickiing "Registry > Export Registry File" or "File > Export". Select a location and name to save the backup file to.

To access the registry for Windows XP and Windows Vista Users:

1. Click "Start > Run". (In Windows Vista, Click the "Start" button and put the cursor into the "Start Search" field).
2. Type "regedit" without the quotes.
3. Click "OK". (In Windows Vista, press the "Enter" key).
4. In the left panel, locate the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Licenses
5. Right click on the key and select permissions
6. Select "Full Control" and check off "Allow" for each user on the system.
7. Exit out of the registry

To access the registry for Windows 2000 Users:

1. Click "Start > Run".
2. Type "regedt32" without the quotes. Click "OK".
3. Select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" panel.
4. In this panel , locate the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Licenses
5. With "License" selected, choose "Security > Permissions".
6. Select "Full Control" and check off "Allow" for each user on the system.
7. Exit out of the registry
