Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking with Microsoft Word
| Products: Dragon NaturallySpeaking 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 |
Problem:
When using Dragon NaturallySpeaking with Microsoft Word XP (2002), 2003 or 2007, the following issues with speech recognition may occur: Select-and-Say fails, words are printed twice or general poor recognition.
Cause:
These issues may be related to the Microsoft Office built-in speech recognition software or the Dragon NaturallySpeaking add-in may be disabled.
Solution:
We recommend enabling the Dragon NaturallySpeaking add-in ("dgnword.dll") in Microsoft Word.
Note: If Microsoft Office XP or 2003 is installed then the built in speech recognition must first be disabled. If it is not disabled, then it will continue to disable Dragon NaturallySpeaking's Word add-in "dgnword.dll". Please follow the steps outlined in Tech Note Number: 3118 "Dragon/ViaVoice locks up, freezes or Select-and-Say fails in Microsoft Office applications" to disable the Microsoft Office speech recognition software.
Please follow these steps to re-enable "dgnword.dll" for use with Microsoft Word XP and 2003:
- Launch Microsoft Word.
- Click on the "Help" menu and choose "About Microsoft Word".
- Click the "Disabled Items" button.
- Verify that dgnword.dll appears in the list.
- If dgnword.dll is in the list, highlight it and then click the "Enable" button.
- If dgnword.dll appears more than once, do this for every instance.
Please follow these steps to re-enable "dgnword.dll" for use with Microsoft Word 2007:
- Launch Microsoft Word 2007.
- Click the Office button.
- Choose "Word Options".
- Click "Add-ins".
- If "NatSpeak Word AddIn" (dgnword.dll) does not appear in the "Add-ins" list then it has been disabled.
- Select "Disabled Items" from the "Manage" dropdown list, then click "Go".
- Highlight "dgnword.dll" in the "Disabled Items" list and click "Enable".
- Click "Close", and then click "OK".
